Puranpoli means Stuffed sweet chapattis. It is most famous in Gujarat and Maharashtra too. We Gujarati make Puranpoli in many occasions like Gujarati new month, birthday’s, some festivals. Maharastrian make Puranpoli on ganesh chaturti festival. Puran-poli is wheat flour chapatti with stuffing of tuver dal. Puran poli is delicious with spicy potato sabji and gujrati kadhi.


Ingredients for Puranpoli Recipe:

Wheat flour: 1 ¼ Cup

Tuver dal: 1 Cup

Sugar (jiggery): 1 Cup

Cardamom powder: ½ tea-spoons

Opium seeds (khus-khus): ½ tea-spoons

Nutmeg powder:  ¼ tea-spoons

Ghee: 1 bowl (small)

Salt: a small pinch

Method How to Cook Puranpoli Recipe:

Step-1: Take pressure cooker. Add Tuver dal and add some water in it. Make 3-4 whistle. After some time open pressure cooker and remove excess  water.

Step-2: Take kadhai, add ½ bowl ghee in it. Add cooked Tuver dal.

Step-3: Add sugar mix well on low flame.

Step-4: When the spoon remains standing when placed in the centre of mixture.It means the puran is ‘done ’.

Step-5: Add remaining ingredients of the person.

Step-6: Set it in a greased plate and allow it to cool.

Step-7: Take bowl, add wheat Flour , add salt as per taste , make a soft dough.

Step-8: Take a ball of the dough and roll a little. put a small amounts of puran in the centre, Cover the puran by drawing up the edges towards the centre. press the dough on the floured board and roll out into a round roti as large as a saucer.

Step-9: Put the puranpoli on a hot griddle, cook for a minute of two and turn once.

Step-10: When brown patches appear on both sides remove puranpoli from the griddle and apply a little ghee.

Step-11: repeat process for all balls of dough.

Additional Tips to make Puranpoli:

If the puran is very soft than add a little ghee to the wheat flour and add that to the dal mixture.
